Yes. The medicine your doctor gives to your child will help control your child’s asthma. It is important that your child take his or her medicine as directed by your doctor. That means,

If your doctor prescribes Then, your child will
Quick-relief medication
  • Take the medicine at the first signs of an asthma attack.
You and your child’s doctor should agree on what those first signs are.
Controller medication
  • Take his or her medicine everyday to help prevent asthma attacks.
If your child does not take his or her controller medicine everyday, then your child will have more asthma attacks more often.
